There is no substitute for seeing the places where history was made, but some teachers fear travel will be too expensive. Learn how to find a great student travel company that will offer student travel discounts and deals on trips that students will love.

How to Choose a Reputable Student Travel Company

Chris Harmen is a writer for Fantastic Tours & Travel. She enjoys researching and writing about student travel (fantastictours.com/), with a particular focus on finding the best student travel discounts (fantastictours.com/destinations.htm).

Almost every history or social studies teacher dreams of taking a class trip to the famous cities that are always discussed, but rarely seen. Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. are talked about all the time in lectures and are the focus of many activities, but there is no substitute for actually seeing the sites and learning the history firsthand.

Yet many teachers shy away from educational trips because they aren’t sure how to work with a student travel company. These companies can be a very good resource for any class trip, providing student travel discounts and helping plan the best student travel deals. but not all companies will be able to provide the same quality of experience and the same number of student travel discounts that can be expected from the best in the industry. this article will show you how to find +reputable companies that will help you and your class have the best possible travel experience.

Searching Student Travel Companies

When looking for companies, finding a large number is very easy. A quick search on the internet will reveal many names, but don’t just choose the first one you see without examining it first. the difference between travel companies can be huge – you don’t want to pick one without knowing you’re picking a good one. Luckily, there are a few criteria you can use to make your choice easier. first, you’ll want to look for an established company. Startup companies may look appealing, but in the long run they have less of the experience and local knowledge you need for a successful trip. A student travel company that has been running for years, on the other hand, will be able to answer your questions and give you guidance based on planning many such trips throughout their years of operation.

Finding the Best Deals

Many teachers expect that the best discounts on travel will come from new companies looking to start offering tours cheap. certainly choosing a new company is a bad idea because of their lack of experience, but on top of that, the student travel deals they offer are usually much smaller than what a more established company would give! one of the key factors that distinguishes a good company is their flexibility and low rates. if they are easy to work with, and willing to work with you, then you’re going to have an overall better experience, and the trip you plan will be much more rewarding.

In addition, you’ll want to look for a company that doesn’t try to fit your travel needs into one cookie-cutter trip. make sure that the company offers student travel discounts on many different destinations, and is willing to work with you to create customized program options in each. if you and your students are going to travel to a historic city, don’t you deserve to see exactly what you want to see? Any travel company that doesn’t agree with that isn’t worth your time.

Putting It all Together

When you use these criteria to choose a travel company, you’ll get an established travel agency that works with your needs and strives to save you money. You and your students will be able to take the trip you’ve always wanted to plan, see the sites you’ve always wanted to see, and do it for less than you expected. Happy traveling!

Air travel is expensive. but I’m not telling you something you don’t already know. there are many ways to save money on air travel some of them will save you a little, some will save you a lot. Before you book your next trip, see if any of these money savings tips are options for you.

Consider flying out of another airport. sometimes the nearest airport does not have the best rates. Checking the rates at one or two of the next nearest airports may yield better airfare rates than the airport that is closest to you. it may be worth it to travel an extra hour to the airport to save hundreds of dollars.

If you have a trip planned for the future, but you aren’t ready to order your tickets yet, sign up for e-mail alerts from all of the airlines that fly from the airport(s) near you to your destination. you never know when an airline may be running a special to your exact destination.

If you are ready to order your tickets, order them as far in advance as possible. The cheapest airfares sell out quickly. The closer to the flight you buy your tickets; the more expensive the tickets are likely to be. this is especially true around the holidays.

If you are booking travel during the holidays, consider flying on the holiday itself. The days prior to a holiday, airfares can be the highest they are all year. if you can fly on the day of the holiday, you can get some of the lowest airfares of the year. if you do decide to book on the holiday, try to book as early in the day as possible in case there are any delays so you don’t miss the holiday festivities once you get to your destination.

If you are phoning the airline directly for your tickets, ask for the cheapest fare, not just the fare for coach. there may be a cheaper fare in a better seat, but you’ll never know if you don’t ask.

Fly on the off days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and sometimes Saturday are considered the off days (unless it’s around a holiday). if you can fly to and from your destination on those days, you are much more likely to get cheaper flights.

Check out the fares on red-eye flights. those flights don’t sell out as quickly as other flights and therefore may have less expensive fares. Sure, if money were no object, the red-eye probably wouldn’t be your first choice, but then again you may sleep your way through the whole flight. That’s always a good way to spend a flight. And if you combine flying on the off days with flying a red-eye on an off day, you may get a real deal.

Do your homework by comparing rates on the different websites. Travelocity, Priceline, Expedia, Orbitz, Cheap Tickets and many other websites have discounted airline tickets as well as discounts on hotels, car rentals, and other things related to travel. Take the time to check out the rates for each website each time you book your travel.

While you are doing your homework, don’t forget to check out the airline’s websites. sometimes the airline’s websites have even better deals than the discount sites. all this homework takes some time, but it will pay off in the end with big savings.

Go outside your comfort zone. you may be used to always flying the same big airline, but if you consider one of the newer smaller airlines, you may be surprised at the savings you can grab.

Before you book your tickets, make sure that the price you have includes all fees and taxes. if you’re not getting the full price of the tickets including fees and taxes, you may not actually be booking the least expensive airfare.

Now that you’ve saved money on your airfare, there are some things that you can do to help save money in other areas of your flight.

Find out what the maximum luggage weight is for the airline you are traveling, and make sure you don’t exceed it. if you check in luggage that is over the weight limit, the airline can charge you a fee for each bag that is over the limit.

If you are driving to the airport, plan to leave early enough so that you can park at one of the off site parking facilities that are close to the airport.

If you’ve got a college age niece or nephew, next door neighbor or someone in that age range who lives nearby ask them to drive you to and from the airport. you can pay them $25 each way and save a bundle on airport parking, and get door to door service to the airport.

Take your own snacks. if your airline does serve food, they may charge for it, and chances are it won’t be very good. you also won’t be tempted to pay the high price for the snacks you buy at the concessions after security because you’ll already have what you’ll need on the plane.

Same goes for your reading materials. Bring your own that you already have at home instead of buying them from the airport stores. a flight is the perfect time to read that book you’ve been meaning to read.

Students travel South for spring break

weather channel No Comments »

Spring fever has struck the College at Brockport campus. Thankfully, spring break is sooner than later.

Students are traveling more than ever this time of year and their main destination is tropical getaways.

“Destination hot spots and cruises are most popular,” said Mitzy Peglow, Orleans travel agent. Peglow says the college-age demographic is going out of the states and vacationing somewhere closer to the equator.

Whether students are flying to a Mexican resort, or sailing away on a fancy cruise ship, this is one time of year when they do not have to worry about exams and term papers. Students can forget the stresses of classes and study sessions, and simply relax.

“On spring break, I totally bum out,” said student John Beckler. When Beckler travels, he says, he’s not a party-goer, but instead relaxes with his nephew in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Students who do not have family members who live in vacation destinations may consider packages that discount booking flight and hotel deals.

“All inclusive deals are the best for college students,” said Peglow, “eat, drink and play packages at Caribbean resorts are what to look for.”

Peglow says the top getaways this spring include cruises (which require you to be 21 years of age) to the Riviera in Mexico, the Caribbean and Cancun, Mexico.

“If I had the money, I would go on a cruise,” student Allison Feger said.

Peglow says families are most likely to jump on Disney and other cruises, while students travel further south.

What is making these other countries so appealing to college students? why not vacation in Myrtle Beach or Orlando?

“Myrtle Beach is too cold,” said Peglow.

According to the Weather Channel online, Tuesday, March 16 in Panama City, Panama, the forecast is partly cloudy, yet 97 degrees Fahrenheit.

“MTV’s Spring Break” is stationed in Acapulco, Mexico this year and with vacation rates of fewer than $500, students are saying goodbye books and hello to tropical fiestas.

China envisions supertrain that can travel from Beijing to London in two days

railway line No Comments »

The world’s a tiny place indeed if you’re not adverse to jumping on an airplane, hurtling into the sky for a few hours and then plunging in a controlled, shrieking fall down at the earth’s crust several thousand miles away… but some people find that prospect a bit unnerving. They’ve got options to air travel, of course: boats and trains and velocipedes and buses and mules and camels… but these are all, by necessity, much, much slower methods of getting from point A to point B.

Those with a paranoid fear of flying, then, might be interested in a new scheme announced by the Chinese government. Taking the concept of Japan and France’s high-speed bullet trains and then twisting the knob up to 11, China plans to build a high-speed railway that would potentially allow people to travel between London to Beijing in under two days.

According to the Chinese government, the train, if built, would go from Beijing to Singapore, then connect to India and Pakistan. the senior consultant of the project said they were aiming for trains that run almost as fast as airplanes, and looking for a complete date of sometime close to 2020.

China’s supertrain ambitions don’t end there: they are also eyeing the possibility of super speed railways between Beijing and Russia and Beijing and Berlin. Another railway line could connect China to Vietname, Thailand, Burma and Malaysia.

It’s all very exciting… but I’m more unnerved by this than plane travel. after all, I don’t really care to ride a train hurtling across the planet at 750mph when we already have a hard enough time keeping errant cows off of more sluggish train tracks.

DOTHAN, Ala. – for 30 years or more, the City of Dothan has supported its superior sports teams by footing the bill for their chance to compete at the next level.

Baseball, soccer, basketball and other teams from Dothan, often are so competitive that they hit, kick and shoot their way into regional and state tournaments.

These male and female athletes, who might be as young as 9 and as old as 18, have always had the travel, food and hotel checks picked up by the city, and thus the taxpayers, because it is understood they represent the community as goodwill ambassadors.

These current economic times, however, could end the long-held practice.

“We need to pay attention to where we are paying for lunches and travel for these kids, these students, we take on trips,” Commissioner John Craig said. “I am concerned the city can no longer afford to do this. I think this is something we need to look at.”Leisure Services Director Elston Jones heaved a sigh. He knew this day might come.

“I’ve been with the city 29 years and we’ve always done it,” he said of the trips, which might cost the city $1,000 or more. “It would be a sad day, but we all understand the state of the economy.”

Commissioner Keith Seagle also supported discontinuing funding the trips. Groups come to every commission meeting asking for funding for some project or cause.

“I think it also has to be reviewed,” Seagle said. “The elephant in the room is our financial situation, our revenues. we appreciate not having to lay off anyone, but we need to weigh are we going to lay off an employee to fund some of these nice-to-have things.”

Dothan City Commissioners discussed the issue during their Tuesday morning meeting, as they approved nine travel requests totaling nearly $7,800. the most expensive trip up for approval was a $2,874 trip for basketball teams to compete in Gadsden.

Two teams – 9-10 year old boys and 11-12 year old boys – will be going to the state basketball tournament March 12-14.

Jones said many cities do fund these trips for city teams, but smaller communities simply cannot.

“What’s bad is going to be the group that’s affected the first time they activate this new program,” Jones said of the probable changes. “Maybe they will consider doing this for calendar year 2011. we realize this costs money, but we understand and believe the public understands as well that these athletes represent the city.”

A travel request shows a registration fee of $200; food budgeted at $14.50 per day for 15 people for three days, totaling $652.50; fuel of $100 for a city vehicle; and $1,821.80 for lodging at $91.09 per night for two nights.

But those figures will be adjusted, as the number of people going is 30, not 15 as submitted documents stated. Also, the length of stay could change, depending on how well the teams do.

Twenty children will be going on the trip as student athletes; three coaches per team; one chaperon per team; and two city staffers – Tony Thorne, Wiregrass Recreation Center manager, and Chad Daniels, sports leader.

City Manager Mike West said he will discuss the issue with Jones before another city-funded athletic trip goes on the travel agenda for approval.

“Maybe all those who have received funds in the past, send them a letter that because of the economy, this will no longer be available,” Commissioner Paul Lee said.

Officials said as city sports teams have the opportunity to advance, parents need to be aware they may be asked to help pay for tournament expenses. Jones said the department might also be able to obtain corporate sponsorships.

Beach Lovers: Enjoy Your Hawaii Vacation With A Hawaii Beach Rental

hawaii vacation No Comments »

Do you consider yourself to be a beach lover? whether you enjoy lounging along the shoreline, swimming, scuba diving, boating, or surfing, you may consider yourself to be a beach lover. if you do love the beach, there is a good chance that you may want to vacation in an area that can give you just what you want; a place to swim, boat, surf, or go scuba diving. You can do this in Hawaii. in fact, you can have the vacation of your dreams on one of the many Hawaiian Islands.

Choosing to take a Hawaii vacation is enough to give you the vacation of your dreams, but you may want more. You can easily do this by carefully choosing where you want to stay while on vacation, in the form of overnight accommodations. if you are looking to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, as well as everything that goes along with them, you are urged to give Hawaii beach rentals some thought. Hawaii beach rentals are the perfect way to spend your whole vacation taking in the beautiful beaches of Hawaii.

As you likely already know, Hawaii vacation beach rentals are rentals that are along the beach. these rentals are most commonly found along Hawaii’s coasts. what is nice about Hawaii beach rentals is that they come in a number of different forms. the two most popular types of rentals include beachfront vacation homes and beachfront vacation condos. When trying to decide whether you would like to stay at a Hawaii beachfront vacation home or a beachfront condo, you are advised to examine the advantages and disadvantages of each. doing so may make it easier for you to choose the overnight accommodations that can best fit your needs, as well as your wants.

Hawaii beachfront vacation rentals are ideal for those who are looking for privacy and some seclusion. this is because beachfront vacation rentals are traditional homes; homes that are designed for vacationers and homes that are located along the coast. perhaps, the greatest benefit of staying in a Hawaii beachfront vacation home is that you will be able to enjoy a Hawaii vacation, while still feeling the comforts of homes. All vacation homes come fully furnished; therefore, you really only need to worry about your food and drinks. in addition to coming fully furnished, most beachfront vacation homes house multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, dinning rooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and family room areas.

Although there are a number of benefits to staying at one of these popular Hawaii beach rentals, you will also find a few, small number of, disadvantages. One of those disadvantages is the cost. since you will be renting your own private home, you will find that beachfront vacation homes cost more money than traditional overnight accommodations at a hotel or at a resort. despite the high costs, you will find renting one of these Hawaii beach rentals to be well worth it. in fact, that leads to another disadvantage of beachfront vacation homes, their popularity. Over the past few years, the popularity of beachfront vacation homes has, literally, skyrocketed. this means that a large number of travelers are often requesting the same homes. to ensure that you get the beachfront vacation home of your choice, you are advised to make your reservations early.

In addition to beachfront vacation homes, you can also book a stay at a Hawaii beach rental by renting a beachfront vacation condo. Beachfront vacation condos are living spaces, or vacation spaces, that are available for rent. these spaces are often housed inside a large building, such as a townhouse or a high-rise. As with vacation rentals, beachfront condos tend to cost more than most hotels or resorts, but they are still, almost always, worth the extra cost. this is because most beachfront vacation condos have multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, dinning rooms, living rooms, and kitchens; everything that you need while on a Hawaii vacation.

Aside from all of the points mentioned above, it is also important to remember that Hawaii beachfront rentals tend to give you more access to the beaches. in fact, you will often find that you are given twenty-four hour access. whether you are looking to go for a boat ride or a swim, you should be able to, depending on the location of your Hawaii beachfront rental and on the condition of the waters in front of you.

Writing a Book as a Gift

essential ingredients No Comments »

I know many readers want to learn how to make money to travel, they want to escape. I am trying to write a book, I am not motivated, I need a topic that I love, and wish to dwell on for about 225 pages, seems rather obsessive to me, but this is a book. I trudge, I muse, I dwell, I am obsessed, I am not a Knight in Shining Armor, but I would rather do the right thing, than the wrong thing. I mean, I think, and I would think you think, that most people feel writing a book is something to show the best we have in us, not to just make money.

HoboA Hobo is a person that travels to work.A tramp is a person that travels and won’t work.A bum is a person that will neither travel or work.

Is a book a gift to mankind, or is it a way to make money? Contrary to any misguided observations, I do not believe people work for money, I do not write this Travel Journal for money, I enjoy doing it, the other sections of my Internet Site makes the money, and one day I will put together a better formula that gets 100s of subscribers per day.(I think the term “Travel Blog,” is pointed at wrong audience, why do I have to write about Travel, I am living Travel, it is the same.)

Foolish Reasons to WriteFameLoveAdmirationAppreciation

Good Reasons to Write BookEntertainment- A great reason to writeHelp- I would write a book to help people.

Is a Book a Gift? What is a great gift? I think my parents want to support the five children, the dozens of grandchildren, with great grandchildren to thrive. they know if the family members have good jobs, in the end, they have one of the essential ingredients of happiness. I do not think the job is money; it is a how we spend our eight ours of obligatory time per day.

————————————————————————–Airport ParkingGatwick ParkingHoliday InsuranceManchester Airport Parking——————– advertisement ——————- Hobo Ads —

Eight Hours of EnslavementI know you believe your boss has enslaved you, truly you volunteer daily to be in the cage, you have gotten the deal you bargained for, either live with it, or make a plan. I think it is possible for me to write a book, call it a gift to a few people; the book would help people escape jobs.

99 percent of you want to stop working, 1 percent of you will work to escape

Give People a new Job BookMaybe I could get myself motivated, if I thought of this as providing jobs for people. People get frustrated when I write about how to make money, but when I do not; I know I am off theme. Hoboes traveled from place to place looking for work, they were not bums or tramps, and they left home and took the cheapest form of transportation to look for work.

I am suppose to find work, now that I have found work, maybe I need to share it with the other Hoboes, I think it is the obligation of travelers to help other travelers it is my duty. I need to tell you to “go this way.”

Writer-Photographer-WebmasterKeep these words connected, they are no longer three jobs, they have become one. This is job I perform; it is how I earn money. these three words are hooked at the hip, they are impossible to separate, if you want to make money the same ways as me, you need to learn all three words.

Please understand though, a good travel does not need to be these three words, in fact, the best travelers could care less about being any of these three words. Ergo, the reason travel writers suck, they are not good travelers; they aspire to be good writers, so they use travel as a subject and miss the whole point.

I guess, if I could write a book, and teach people how to make money; it would help them, and be a gift. I have been getting truly annoyed by the promoters who are saying, make money as a Travel Writers; this is a horrible way of making money. Writing by itself, without Webmaster Skills is going to land you in poverty, unless you get a job for the new York Times, then you are going to have trouble calling yourself a traveler.to be a Traveler, and make money the same as me, you need to be a:Writer-Photographer-Webmaster

Writing is about confusing the audience until they can think clearly, if I do not give you twisted, ambiguous sentence, life would not be a challenge, and you would be bored.

*Good Reasons to Write Book*

I know of a couple people who have written and published books never intending to make money. they loved doing it, but they REALLY loved the feeling of accomplshing something that for them was a serious personal challenge. one of these people hopes to one day make money writing, but has no illusions of ever making money on her first book, nor of it being a sure thing that she will ever be able to make money as a writer.

Andy, years ago, geeee, now its decades ago, I read a book called blue hyways. Apparently years ago all the two lane roads were in blue on roadmaps. it was a fun, entertaining read. The man just drove around the country on two lane (blue) hyways (not interstate) and talked of the memorable, eccentric people and characters that he met.

This is really interesting. I’m a writer but quit my 9-5 at Xmas to start a new life working for myself, writing for myself and doing what I love with freedom. interestingly I work twice as hard for half the money but the job satisfaction that I get is indescribable. It’s the ability to just do what I want to do and then write about it that I love more than anything and travel has become a central part of that. I’d love to write a book one day but don’t have the time to dedicate to it at the moment! Good luck!!!
