TIME AGAIN FOR REPOSITIONING DEALS

It’s that time of year when car-rental companies start rolling out their drive-out-of-Florida deals. the promotional rates help companies reposition their fleets by enticing travelers with cheap one-way rentals when they pick up cars in Florida and drop them off in other states.

the idea, of course, is a driving vacation: Head up the Eastern seaboard, for example, see the sights along the way and then fly home.

Alamo has rates starting at $10 per day plus taxes and fees. Cars may be rented between April 5 and may 31, with a one-day minimum and 21-day maximum rental. Alamo’s sister company, National, is offering the same rates. Contact: 1-877-222-9075; alamo.com.

We have seen a couple of other Florida one-way deals, but we don’t find them to be as good. Hertz has the cheapest daily rates, with economy cars starting at $2 per day, but you can rent the car only for a maximum of four days available through June 30. Avis also has a four-day maximum on rentals, but rates start at $19.95 per day. Rentals must be returned to participating locations in Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, the Carolinas or Tennessee. Pick up is available March 20 through June 15. 800-331- 1212; avis.com.

Air Europa has announced nonstop Miami-Madrid service four times a week beginning March 19. Air Europa is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance.

CELEBRATION TO SAIL FROM WPB IN MARCH

Celebration Cruise Line has reached an agreement with the Port of Palm Beach and will leave Port Everglades and begin sailing exclusively out of West Palm Beach beginning March 15. the Bahamas Celebration will offer two-night Bahamas cruises, sailing every other day.
